Below is a list of trades involving 2012 draft picks that happened prior to the night of the draft. This is to, hopefully, help explain why the teams do not consistently pick in the reverse order of standings. Draft night trades can be found on the Draft 2012 page.



 First round, picks 1-3: New Orleans, Charlotte and Washington won the top 3 spots in the lottery, thus moving up. (Or, in the case of Charlotte, down.)

 First round, pick 6: Portland acquired Brooklyn's first round pick as a part of the Gerald Wallace trade of March 2012.

 First round, pick 10: New Orleans acquired Minnesota's first round pick, via the L.A. Clippers, as a part of the Chris Paul trade of December 2011. L.A. Clippers had previously acquired the pick as a part of the Marko Jaric trade of August 2005.

 First round, picks 12 and 14: Houston and Milwaukee agreed to swap first round picks as a part of the Samuel Dalembert trade of June 2012.

 First round, pick 16: Houston acquired New York's first round pick as a part of the Tracy McGrady trade of February 2010.

 First round, pick 18: Houston acquired Utah's first round pick, via Minnesota, as a part of the Chase Budinger trade of June 2012. Minnesota had previously acquired it in July 2010 in exchange for Al Jefferson.

 First round, pick 22: Boston acquired L.A. Clippers's first round pick, via Oklahoma City, as a part of the Kendrick Perkins trade of February 2011. Oklahoma City had previously acquired the pick from L.A. Clippers as a part of the Eric Bledsoe trade in June 2010.

 First round, pick 24: Cleveland acquired the L.A. Lakers's first round pick as a part of the Ramon Sessions trade of March 2012.

 First round, pick 30: Golden State acquired San Antonio's first round pick as a part of the Stephen Jackson trade of March 2012.



 Second round, pick 34: Cleveland acquired New Orleans's second round pick, via Miami, as a part of the LeBron James trade of July 2010. Miami previously acquired the pick in the Marcus Thornton trade of June 2009.

 Second round, pick 35: Golden State acquired Brooklyn's second round pick as a part of the Brandan Wright trade of February 2011.

 Second round, pick 38: Denver acquired Golden State's second round pick, via New York, as a part of the Carmelo Anthony trade in February 2011. New York previously acquired the pick in the David Lee trade of July 2010.

 Second round, pick 40: Portland acquired Minnesota's second round pick, via Houston, as a part of the Marcus Camby trade of February 2012. Houston had previously acquired the pick from Minnesota as a part of the Jonny Flynn deal of June 2011.

 Second round, pick 43: Atlanta acquired Phoenix's second round pick as a part of the Josh Childress trade in July 2010.

 Second round, pick 44: Detroit acquired Houston's second round pick as a part of the Chase Budinger trade of June 2009.

 Second round, pick 46: New Orleans acquired Dallas's second round pick, via Washington, as a part of the Rashard Lewis trade of June 2012. Washington previously acquired the pick from Dallas as a part of the Tyson Chandler three team trade of December 2011.

 Second round, pick 52: Golden State acquired Atlanta's second round pick in March 2012 in exchange for cash.

 Second round, pick 54: Philadelphia acquired Memphis's second round pick as a part of the Xavier Henry trade of January 2012.

 Second round, pick 55: Dallas acquired L.A. Lakers's second round pick as a part of the Lamar Odom trade of December 2011.

 Second round, pick 56: Toronto acquired Indiana's second round pick as a part of the Leandro Barbosa trade in March 2012.

 Second round, pick 57: Brooklyn acquired Miami's second round pick as a part of the Chris Quinn trade in January 2009.

 Second round, pick 58: Minnesota acquired Oklahoma City's second round pick as a part of the Lazar Hayward trade in December 2011.

 Second round, pick 60: L.A. Lakers acquired Chicago's second round pick, via Brooklyn and Milwaukee, as a part of the Joe Smith trade of December 2010. Brooklyn had previously acquired the pick from Milwaukee as a part of the Chris Douglas-Roberts trade of June 2010. Milwaukee had previously acquired the pick from Chicago as a part of the John Salmons trade of February 2010.
