Really Overdue 2010 D-League Draft Review
2010-11-15

18th: - Erie BayHawks - Kyle Spain, San Diego State

Spain has gone to summer league with the Washington Wizards for two consecutive years. About the latter, I wrote this about him:

[Spain] spent his first professional season in Belgium (sadly not in Spain), averaging 13.1 points in 26.1 minutes per game for the Leuven Bears before being ruled out for the season in March due to injury. Spain is a good outside shooter and extremely strong for a wing player, but he's not a brilliant shooter. Merely a good one. Since this is also the thing he is best at, it's the reason why he remains on the outside of the NBA.

In the end, he didn't play for the team this time. Spain doesn't yet stand out in any facet of the game - OK defensively, OK shooter, OK rebounder, big but slow, and great at nothing - and thus would help himself greatly if he could find a specialism to build his CV off of. It should probably be the jumpshooting.

San Diego Spain forward Spain was on the Wizards summer league roster last year, too, and thus must have left a favourable impression. - Kyle Spain

San Diego State forward Kyle Spain is not in Spain, but in Belgium. He went to summer league with the Washington Wizards but was unable to secure a contract offer and thus signed with the Passe-Partout Leuven Bears. In 21 games for the team Spain averaged 13.1 points and 4.6 rebounds, shooting 37% from three point range, but injured his foot last month and is out for the season. Leuven replaced him with former Arizona swingman Micah Downs, who was previously with Croatian club KK Zadar but who left when they fell behind on his payments. That's happened a lot all over Europe this year.

Note: Non-US teams that the player has played for are, unless stated otherwise, from the top division in that nation. If a league or division name is expressly stated, it's not the top division. The only exceptions to this are the rare occasions where no one league is said to be above the other, such as with the JBL/BJ League split in Japan.
