   2017 NBA Manifesto

JaMychal Green
PF, 6’9, 227lbs, 27 years old, 3 years of experience

Won Randolph's spot and proved himself to be a pretty solid NBA starter. Finishes around the basket pretty well, shoots from outside pretty well, rebounds on the defensive end pretty well, guards switches pretty well, defends the post fairly well. Not much of a rim protector, even less of a creator and prone to grabbing rather than sliding over, yet Green has become a reliable and important role player, who now enters restricted free agency. He is a likely target for the Brooklyn Nets-type teams who are looking to find young veterans with quality, hoping to outbid their cap-conscious incumbent teams. The downside to playing him so much was in having him earn so much market value. This could be expensive.

Player Plan: Entering restricted free agency, and could be a second tier target on the market. His qualifying offer and cap hold of $2,820,497 are small, but eight figure per annum offers might come in. At the lower ends of that range, they are worth matching.

   NBA Fantasy Preview - 1st December 2017

Since returning from injury, Green has put up a reliable mid-20s fantasy point performance each night, with a remarkably tight range of six games between 21.4 and 26.1. It is this kind of stoic consistency that has been the foundation of his NBA career, that got him to stick around in the league after initially being very much on the fringes, and which won him a starting spot ahead of Zach Randolph et al.

However, even though it is not anything new to him personally, Green continues to be underpriced in fantasy, relative to his peers. By way of comparison, Green is not only marginally cheaper than Frank Kaminsky ($11.3 million), but also out-averages him, and is considerably more consistent. And thus while he is no flashy pick, Green is a solid one with value.

   NBA Fantasy Preview - 22nd November 2017

The steady Green has averaged 13 points and 5.5 rebounds in his two starters-minutes games this season, numbers perfectly realistic for his usual career production. There is very little competition at his position currently, with Brandan Wright injured and Jarell Martin struggling. And while Mike Conley Jr’s injury does mean the loss of Green’s best set-up man, it also means there are more shots to go around, which he may wind up benefitting from.

   NBA Fantasy Preview - 20th November 2017

Green is back from injury, and, with Jarell Martin having offered very little in his stead, his starting spot was almost immediately given back to him. In the two games since his return, he has posted 41 minutes, 23 points, 9 rebounds and nothing else, but perhaps a more accurate forecast can be gained from his numbers last season. His averages of 8.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.6 steals, 0.4 blocks and 1.0 turnovers per game back then would equate to a fantasy points average of 21 points per game. For a mere $7.6 million, that is good value.

Note: Non-US teams that the player has played for are, unless stated otherwise, from the top division in that nation. If a league or division name is expressly stated, it's not the top division. The only exceptions to this are the rare occasions where no one league is said to be above the other, such as with the JBL/BJ League split in Japan.
