   2017 NBA Manifesto

Kyle Anderson
SF, 6’9, 230lbs, 23 years old, 3 years of experience

Being so cerebral, Anderson was always going to find his way into an NBA rotation, even if he is a bit slow to change direction. Offensively, Anderson has learned to find his spots; the corner threes, the one-dribble pull-up straightaway twos, leaking out and cutting off the ball make for some scoring opportunities, which he is pretty good at finding if not so good at making when contested. Defensively, the less explosive the opponent, the better, yet he can compete with them all, and he has proven that he can rebound at the NBA level, which in turn might precipitate a move to the small ball power forward role (where his abilities to handle from outside and lead the break become massive mismatch advantages). A player like Anderson will always need a functioning team unit around him on both ends to succeed. Here, he has that.

Player Plan: One year of rookie scale salary remaining. Extension eligible, but that would be a surprise. Ought be given regular minutes at the power forward spot going for-ward, especially in light of the uncertainty of the futures of all three of the players that were ahead of him there. Thereafter, re-evaluate next summer.

Anderson is a system player who relies upon the team around him playing well in order to be productive himself. And in the last game, a big blowout loss, he wasn’t. Yet Anderson will once again start the game for the Kawhi-less Spurs, play roughly 30 minutes, grab some rebounds, and post some defensive stats, all for a pittance. And if he scores as well on top of that, bargain.

The main beneficiary of the continued absence of Kawhi Leonard, Anderson has started all four games thus far, averaging 9.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Leonard will be out for a while longer yet, leaving the door open for Anderson, whose headiness will always lead him to contribute in the box score.

Anderson averages 8.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.1 blocks per game thus far, a 23.4 fantasy point per game average that should really cost more than this by now. Until the algorithms catch up, take advantage.

Note: Non-US teams that the player has played for are, unless stated otherwise, from the top division in that nation. If a league or division name is expressly stated, it's not the top division. The only exceptions to this are the rare occasions where no one league is said to be above the other, such as with the JBL/BJ League split in Japan.
