Jarell Martin
PF, 6’10 239lbs, 23 years old, 2 years of experience

Two years in, and Martin has yet to find a role; indeed, he regressed significantly from his rookie season as a sophomore, shooting 38.4% as a supposed big man and not being nearly physical enough. Martin is still projectable - he has stretch potential, good athleticism, the ability to run the court, the theoretical ability to drive the ball, a good rebounding rate and the potential to be a good stretch big defender. It is plenty imaginable that he could one day do what Green already does now, but it is also undeniable that he is a long way short of that.

Player Plan: Two years of rookie scale salary remaining. Could in theory step up in the wake of a Randolph departure. Should be given the opportunity to sink or swim, at least.

Both [Martin and Brandan Wright] are listed here on account of being the likely starting big man combination for the Grizzlies tonight, as, although he has not been officially ruled out at the time of writing, Marc Gasol is not expected to play. Martin has appeared in this list before, albeit while underwhelming immediately afterwards each time; Wright, a player who is always productive in his minutes (even if his limited skill set and tendency to foul normally limit how many minutes those can be) will contribute points and blocks for cheap, and possibly some good rebounding numbers.

Martin continues to start at power forward, and while he is not likely to be one to ever have big scoring nights, he always contributes something to the box score. In the last game, Martin contributed 9 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist, while posting season averages of 7.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. These are not especially big numbers, and Martin’s 4.2 fouls per game are preventing him from bigger things: nevertheless, for the near-minimum price tag, he represents good value. One foul-free night, and who knows?

In JaMychal Green’s absence, Martin has started all but one game at power forward, and has slowly warmed up. His minutes and output have increased, up to 9 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks per game in the last game. And while his streakiness is reflected in the price, he has little competition for minutes at this point.

Note: Non-US teams that the player has played for are, unless stated otherwise, from the top division in that nation. If a league or division name is expressly stated, it's not the top division. The only exceptions to this are the rare occasions where no one league is said to be above the other, such as with the JBL/BJ League split in Japan.
