Really Overdue 2010 D-League Draft Review
2010-11-15

2nd: - New Mexico Thunderbirds - Alan Anderson, Michigan State

After going undrafted in 2005, Anderson played a couple of years with the Bobcats. He didn't play especially well, and struggled with injuries in his second year (which led to him being cut in November, and picked back up again 4 months later). Anderson was a solid if unspectacular all-around player at Michigan State, who tried to make his niche in the NBA as an athletic defender/slasher. He has since toured the upper echelons of Europe, playing in Italy, Russia and Croatia, before spending last season in Israel with Maccabi Tel-Aviv. Again battling various injuries, Anderson averaged 13.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.6 steals in 27 minutes of Euroleague play, shooting 34% from three point range. He's athletic, good defensively, can slash, has a decent enough jumpshot (better from mid-range) and can make plays for others; on the downside, he's also prone to over-penetrating, being a bit ball-dominant and a ball-stopper. Nevertheless, even if his style of play doesn't do it for you, there's always production there.

[...] Behind Navarro, Barca had hoped to sign Rafa Martinez from Valencia (more on him later), but when they were unable to get him, they eventually made a midseason move for Alan Anderson, who had begun the season in the D-League after striking out in the summer transfer market. Anderson is experienced at this, having made it to this stage last year with Maccabi Tel-Aviv, and while he's not without his occasional moment of ball dominance, he contributes on both ends, averaging 12.4 points in only 26 minutes per game.

- Alan Anderson

Anderson signed with Maccabi Tel Aviv fantastically early on this summer, and he's still there. In the Euroleague, Anderson is averaging 13.1 points, 3.3 fouls, 3.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals in 25 minutes per game, and in the Israeli league he's averaging 10.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 18 minutes a game. There have been rumours a-flying about Maccabi potentially getting rid of him, but rumours like that have accompanied many Maccabi players this year, especially Maciej Lampe. And neither has left yet.

Note: Non-US teams that the player has played for are, unless stated otherwise, from the top division in that nation. If league or division name is expressly stated, it's not the top division. The only exceptions to this are the rare occasions where no one league is said to be above the other, such as with the JBL/BJ League split inJapan.

In the event where more than one agent is listed, this is because the player has more than one agent. This is rather commonplace - a lot of times, a player will sign with a big agency, and they will have both primary and secondary agents from within that agency to handle their affairs. (Where that happens, the primary agent is listed first.) Also, foreign players tend to have both American and domestic agents. Where the details of such are known, they are listed.
